TOO MUCH ON PAGE ONE

No surprise to see that the latest issue of the New York Observer, one of my favorite periodicals, continues the publication's longstanding habit of launching too many articles on the first page of the weekly paper.

To cite just the latest mess, the cover of the January 31 issue of the Observer features the start of no fewer than seven articles.

Of course neither editor Peter Kaplan nor the rhythmically named publisher Arthur Carter can resist placing those irritating Concord-Tourneau and Rolex-Wempe ads at the bottom of the front page.

A boy's gotta' make a buck, right?
